1. General Information about the ScreenMates site.

What are ScreenMates? ScreenMates are interactive animated desktop inhabitants.
Download one or download them all, you'll definitely enjoy yourself.
If you use our products and website, that means that you agree to our website rules.
Homepage On the ScreenMates Homepage you will find lots of cool ScreenMates! Be sure to bookmark our site and come back! We add new ScreenMates about once a month or so. Please be aware that we are a professional organization that makes ScreenMates for our clients, so these assignments naturally must take precedence. But don't worry - we put up new ScreenMates whenever we can!

2. What are ScreenMates and how do I work them?

ScreenMates are interactive animated desktop inhabitants.
ScreenMates do not install on your system, they are stand-alone programs that have no other supporting files beyond the executable (.exe) itself.

If you place your cursor over the ScreenMate and right click on your mouse, you will get a list of options to choose from!

Make sure to right click on your ScreenMate! It's a lot of fun!

3. Are ScreenMates really free?

Absolutely! There are no charges, hidden costs, or gimmicks associated with downloading, sending, or receiving one of our ScreenMates.

5. Who can use a ScreenMate?

Anyone who is on a Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000 or XP platform can use or view our ScreenMates.

AdTools will continue to develop a wide range of marketing tools including future versions of ScreenMates and other products. Macintosh, WebTV and Unix versions are among many enhancements under consideration.

6. What software is needed to view a ScreenMate?

Absolutely none! ScreenMates run on any computer running the Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP operating system! No plug-ins, players, viewers or helper apps are necessary. In order to hear the sound, you do need to have MIDI capabilities on your computer.

7. What software is needed to hear a ScreenMate?

Not all ScreenMates have sound.
ScreenMates with audio use MIDI files. If you double click on the speaker in the lower right hand corner (system tray) you'll bring up your volume controls. Make sure it's not muted.

If you do not hear anything and you know the ScreenMate has audio, then check to see that you have the newest possible MIDI drivers for your sound card. If your sound card does not support MIDI sound, then you will not be able to hear ScreenMates.

8. Do ScreenMates run on Macintosh computers, Unix computers, or WebTV?

ScreenMates are currently made for computers running on the Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP operating systems. AdTools will continue to develop a wide range of marketing tools including future versions of ScreenMates and other products. Macintosh, WebTV and Unix versions are among many enhancements under consideration.

9. How do I download a ScreenMate so I can see it?

It's easy!
Just go to our site at ScreenMates.
Select a ScreenMate, either from our homepage, or from our Archives section (found on the left hand side of the homepage).

Click on the picture of the ScreenMate that you want to see.
A download window will open up. Either "run it" from our site, or "save it" to your hard drive. If you "run it" from our website, you are not saving it to your computer. If you would like to save the ScreenMate to your computer, make sure to select where you want to save it to on your computer, and then select "save it to disc." Remember where you save it to!

10. How do I send a ScreenMate to my friends and family?

We recommend that you go to our ScreenMates website and download your own copy of our ScreenMates directly from our site to your hard drive. This is always the best way to obtain our .exe files. Likewise, if you want to share them with your friends, I would recommend referring them to our website - otherwise, file corruption may occur over the Internet if you attempt to send them as email attachments.

11. Can I save a ScreenMate that I downloaded?

Sure you can! When you download the ScreenMate from our website by clicking on the ScreenMate graphic, a download window will open. You can select to download it and "run it" from our site, or "save it" to your computer. If you would like to save the ScreenMate to your computer, then select "save it to disc." Remember where you saved it to on your computer!

12. What are cookies, and does ScreenMates use cookies?

A cookie is a small, non-executable text file that is sent to your computer. Because they are non-executable, they are perfectly safe for your computer. Cookies are very commonly used on the Internet to help websites serve you better.
