1. What are ScreenMates and how do I work them?

ScreenMates are interactive animated desktop inhabitants. ScreenMates do not install on your system, they are stand alone programs that have no other supporting files beyond the executable (.exe) itself.

If you place your cursor over the ScreenMate and right click on your mouse, you will get a list of options to choose from!

Make sure to right click on your ScreenMate! It's a lot of fun!

2. How do I download a ScreenMate?

It's easy!
Just go to our site at ScreenMates. Select a ScreenMate, either from our homepage, or visit our ARCHIVES. Click on the graphic of the ScreenMate that you want to see. A download window will open up. Either "run it" from our site, or "save it" to your hard drive. If you opt to "run it" from our website, you are not saving it to your computer.

If you would like to save the ScreenMate to your computer, make sure to select where you want to save it to on your computer, and then select "save it to disc." Remember where you save it to!

3. How do I open a ScreenMate?

It's easy to open a ScreenMate! Click on the graphic of the ScreenMate that you want to see. A download window will open up. Either "run it" from our site, or "save it" to your hard drive. If you "run it" from our website, you are not saving it to your computer. The ScreenMate will open automatically after you click "run it" from our website.

If you would like to save the ScreenMate to your computer, make sure to select where you want to save it to on your computer, and then select "save it to disc." You will get the option to open it immediately after it has finished saving.

You can also just double click on the ScreenMate program wherever you saved it to if you want to start the ScreenMate.

4. How do I close a ScreenMate?

It's easy to close a ScreenMate!

When you are finished viewing the ScreenMate, just place your cursor over the ScreenMate and right click on your mouse.

A drop down menu will open up. Select "close."

You can also place your cursor over the ScreenMate in the task bar on your computer and right click on your mouse. A drop down menu will appear. Select "close."

5. How do I save a ScreenMate?

It's easy to save a ScreenMate to your computer's hard drive.

When you click on the ScreenMate graphic on the website to download it from our site, a download window will open. You can select to download it and "run it" from our site, or "save it" to your computer. If you would like to save the ScreenMate to your computer, make sure to select where you want to save it to on your computer, and then select "save it to disc." Remember where you saved it!

6. How do I hear a ScreenMate?

Not all ScreenMates have sound.
ScreenMates with audio use MIDI files. If you double click on the speaker in the lower right hand corner (system tray) you'll bring up your volume controls. Make sure it's not muted.

If you do not hear anything and you know the ScreenMate has audio, then check to see that you have the newest possible MIDI drivers for your sound card. If your sound card does not support MIDI sound, then you will not be able to hear ScreenMates.

7. How do I make a shortcut (or icon) for the ScreenMate on my desktop?

After you save the ScreenMate to your computer's hard drive, locate the ScreenMate. Place your cursor over the ScreenMate application and right click on your mouse. A drop down menu will open up. Select "create shortcut" from the options. Click and drag the shortcut icon onto your desktop for easy access to your ScreenMate!

8. How do I make a ScreenMate run automatically when I start up my computer, or "run on startup"?

Not every ScreenMate has the "run on startup" option.
In order to make the ScreenMate run automatically when you start up your computer for those ScreenMates with the "run on startup" option, you must first save the ScreenMate to your hard drive.

When you click on the ScreenMate graphic on the website to download it from our site, a download window will open. You can select to download it and "run it" from our site, or "save it" to your computer. If you would like to save the ScreenMate to your computer, make sure to select where you want to save it to on your computer, and then select "save it to disc." Remember where you saved it!

After you save the ScreenMate, double click on the ScreenMate application (wherever you saved it to) and open the ScreenMate.

Place your cursor over the ScreenMate itself and right click. A drop down menu will appear. Select "run on startup" if the option is listed.

Now, whenever you start up your computer, the ScreenMate will startup with it. Remember to deselect "run on startup" before you delete the ScreenMate!

9. How do I make my ScreenMate always be on top?

Not all the ScreenMates have the "always on top" option. To check to see if your ScreenMate has that option, place your cursor over the ScreenMate and right click on your mouse. A drop down list will appear. If the "always on top" option is available, select it. Now your ScreenMate will always be on top of other applications.

10. How do I delete a ScreenMate?

Our ScreenMates are easy to delete!
Some ScreenMates you can delete while the ScreenMate is open and running on your computer! If the ScreenMate is running on your computer, place your cursor over the ScreenMate. Right click on your mouse. A drop down menu will appear. Make sure the "run on startup" option is not selected (if it is, deselect "run on startup"). Then, select "uninstall" or "delete" from the list of options.

If the ScreenMate is closed, place your cursor over the ScreenMate application (wherever you saved it to) and right click on your mouse. A drop down menu will appear. Select "delete." Then just follow the promptings. We also recommend that you do a SEARCH to delete any shortcuts that may have been created. Click on the START tab in the lower left hand corner. Click "Find", then "Files or Folders." Then enter the name of the ScreenMate that you want deleted from your computer and delete that ScreenMate.

11. How can I find different ScreenMates on the site?

We have so many ScreenMates to choose from!
Go to www.screenmates.com.
You can find ScreenMates on our homepage or in our Archives Section. There are some ScreenMates that we do not have listed on the www.screenmates.com website. You can find more ScreenMates at our www.messagemates.com www.tooned.com and www.pumpiworld.com websites.

12. Why can't I preview the ScreenMate instead of downloading it?

If you would like to see the ScreenMate before saving it to your computer, when you click on the ScreenMate graphic, select "run it" from our website instead of saving it to your computer.

13. How do I make my own ScreenMate?

ScreenMates are produced by AdTools, Inc. using proprietary software. This software is the result of extensive research, and is one of the unique features of our products. Consequently, we do not license it to third parties or disclose the techniques it employs.

Please be aware that ScreenMates are very time and cost consuming. They take a fair bit of work, and we are a professional organization, which makes customized desktop marketing tools for our clients - so those assignments, naturally, must take precedence. 15. How do I Uninstall the Felix the Cat ScreenMate?

If you place your mouse's cursor over Felix, while he is running, and right click, a drop down menu will appear. One of the options will read "Exit". If you click on that, you will close out of Felix until you choose to run him again.

If you want to delete Felix permanently, you must run the Felix "uninstaller". You can download the Felix Uninstaller from our website:

(a download window only will pop open; if your browser is open, you may connect to a "page cannot be found" page, but just close the browser window and click on the link above again for the download window)

Then run it on your computer. Afterwards, restart your computer. Now the little guy will be gone for good.

If you have the newest version of Felix the Cat with the toybox, then right click on Felix when the program is running and select "uninstall." Follow the promptings.
